Eager to speak with Haley about her clothing brand, podcast, and Youtube channel, BELLA connected with the entertainer herself…
What inspired you to create your clothing line, Retro Reprise?
I got the idea for Retro Reprise my junior year of high school, when I learned about the Memphis design art movement. I loved the pattern and I wanted to buy clothing that had it on it, but I couldn't find any anywhere. So, I decided to create it myself so I that I could wear it and share it with my friends and audience because I kept getting a lot of questions about where I was wearing it from.
How would you describe the overall vibe of your brand?
Retro Reprise is Memphis design! The vibe is sort of the ’80s & ’70s.
What topics do you cover in your podcast titled Call Me Candid?
We talk about our faith, what it's like to start from zero and try to build a business, what it's like to be a female founder, and just the truth behind what our lives are like day to day.
What have you learned/how have you evolved as a content creator over the last 9 years?
Being authentic. My audience can tell when I’m unhappy but forcing myself to film a video. People can see nuance even through a screen, so if you’re not happy, you won’t be able to trick yourself and you will not trick anybody else.
What advice would you give to someone looking to start their own YouTube channel/series?
It takes 10,000 hours to become a pro at anything so be consistent, be patient, expect failure, and persist none the less.
How do you define beauty?
How you treat people! Beauty is not always about your exterior and how you look physically, but also about your interior and the way you interact and treat others.
