The BELLA Winter Edit: Where to Eat, Drink + Cozy Up in NYC
From rooftop igloos and cocktails overlooking Union Square to Jean-Georges dining and a Hell’s Kitchen piano bar, these are the New York City addresses making winter worth going out for.
There’s something about New York in winter. The temperature drops, the lights come on, and suddenly the city’s best hotels, rooftops, restaurants, and bars feel even more inviting.
This season, some of our favorite Manhattan addresses are giving us plenty of reasons to bundle up and head out. Think cocktails above Union Square after a holiday-market run, dinner followed by skyline views from a private rooftop igloo, an elegant Upper East Side escape, or an evening spent around a piano in Hell’s Kitchen.
Whether you’re planning a winter staycation, entertaining out-of-town guests, or simply looking for somewhere new to eat and drink, consider this your Chow BELLA winter hit list.
W New York – Union Square: Shop, Sip, Repeat
Few locations put you closer to the action than W New York – Union Square.
Start outside at the Union Square Holiday Market, wander the neighborhood, and then retreat from the cold for the part we’re really interested in: cocktails and dinner.
Head upstairs to Guardian at the W for craft cocktails overlooking Union Square, or settle into Seahorse for brunch and seasonal dining.
The BELLA move: Make an afternoon of it—holiday shopping, cocktails at sunset, then dinner. No complicated itinerary required.
PUBLIC New York: Your Winter Rooftop Era
Yes, rooftop season can absolutely continue after summer.
The iconic rooftop igloos at PUBLIC New York are back for winter, turning those sweeping Lower Manhattan views into one of the city’s coziest seasonal experiences.
The private igloos accommodate groups of up to 10 and are outfitted with plush blankets and candlelight, with warming bites and seasonal cocktails completing the experience.
It’s romantic enough for date night, fun enough for a girls’ night, and—with 360-degree skyline views—very hard not to photograph.
The BELLA move: Grab your favorite people, order the holiday cocktails, and let Manhattan provide the backdrop.
The Mark Hotel: An Upper East Side Classic
Some winter moments call for something a little more polished.
Enter The Mark Hotel.
The Madison Avenue landmark remains one of those quintessential New York addresses where the experience extends well beyond checking into a room. At The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges, elevated dining meets the unmistakable glamour of the Upper East Side, while The Mark Bar provides an intimate destination for cocktails.
Then there’s Caviar Kaspia at The Mark for anyone who believes winter indulgence should involve a little caviar—and we’re inclined to agree.
With Central Park, Madison Avenue shopping, and some of the city’s most important museums nearby, The Mark makes an elegant base for turning a cold Manhattan day into a very chic one.
The BELLA move: Museum. Madison Avenue. Martini. Dinner. In that order.
The Standard, High Line: Downtown Never Hibernates
Winter doesn't slow down the Meatpacking District—and neither does The Standard, High Line.
Perched above the High Line, the hotel’s 338 rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows and sweeping views of Manhattan and the Hudson River. But for Chow BELLA purposes, you don’t necessarily need to check in to make a night of it.
There’s The Standard Grill for a classic New York dining experience, the hotel’s German beer garden for something more casual, and Le Bain and BOOM when dinner inevitably turns into drinks—and drinks turn into staying out considerably later than planned.
Outside the hotel, galleries, restaurants, shops, and the High Line make the neighborhood one of the easiest places to spend an entire winter afternoon and evening.
The BELLA move: Come for dinner. Stay for the downtown energy.
Romer Hell’s Kitchen: Meet Us at the Piano
For something with a little more neighborhood soul, Romer Hell’s Kitchen puts you in the middle of one of Manhattan’s most character-filled neighborhoods.
The location makes it particularly appealing for a winter weekend: Broadway, Times Square, and the Hudson River are all nearby, while the hotel itself leans into the personality of Hell’s Kitchen rather than trying to escape it.
The standout is So & So’s, Romer’s neighborhood piano bar and gathering place. It’s the kind of spot made for lingering over drinks, listening to live music, and remembering why New York nightlife doesn’t always need velvet ropes or bottle service to feel special.
The BELLA move: Book the Broadway tickets, but don’t rush home after the curtain call. The night isn’t over yet.
Winter Looks Good on New York
New York doesn’t retreat indoors when winter arrives—it simply changes the experience.
Rooftops become heated hideaways. Hotel bars become destinations of their own. Dinner stretches into cocktails, fireplaces and live music. And neighborhoods you may walk through every week suddenly feel different under holiday lights or the first snowfall.
So layer up.
There’s a whole city worth eating, drinking, and experiencing before spring gets here.
See you out there.
