Tony Goldwyn Presented with “Rays of Hope Award” by GO2 for Lung Cancer

On June 13th, GO2 for Lung Cancer honored acclaimed actor, director, and former BELLA Magazine cover star, Tony Goldwyn, with the “Rays of Hope Award for Excellence in Community Engagement and Awareness.” The award emphasized Tony’s commitment to providing hope for those impacted by lung cancer, and to educating the public that GO2 is the place to go for those at risk, diagnosed, or living with lung cancer.

The Rays of Hope Award is one of GO2’s most prestigious annual awards, presented to an individual who goes “above and beyond the call of duty”. “We are honoring Tony with this award on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of people who are currently living with lung cancer and will be diagnosed this year,” said Laurie Ambrose, president and CEO of GO2 for Lung Cancer.

“We are so grateful to Tony for his work raising awareness of this disease and amplifying the message that GO2 is their go-to for people who don’t know where to turn for help navigating lung cancer.”

Lung cancer is the single largest cancer killer, tragically claiming more lives than breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers combined. The disease often has no symptoms until it has metastasized, making early detection challenging. Sadly, more than 230,000 people will learn they have lung cancer this year, 20 percent of whom have never smoked.

Additionally, the number of young women being diagnosed with lung cancer with no known risk factors is increasing. Despite these difficult statistics, lung cancer is often treatable and even curable if caught early, making awareness and accessible resources crucial.

Tony’s work with GO2 hits close to home, as the actor lost his mother to the vicious disease decades ago. “When I lost my mother to lung cancer in 1993, she didn’t have many options,” said Tony Goldwyn. “That’s why I am so passionate about making people aware of lung cancer’s impact and the lifesaving support GO2 provides.”

Last November, during Lung Cancer Awareness Month, GO2 launched national public service announcements featuring Tony. The informative PSAs were aimed at educating the public that anyone with lungs can get lung cancer, including nonsmokers, and promoted GO2 as the resource Tony wished his mother had when she was diagnosed with lung cancer decades prior. Tony’s intense personal connection to the disease makes his message all the more touching, truly amplifying GO2 for Lung Cancer’s message.

Since their release last year, the PSAs have received national exposure, continuing to run on digital media, broadcast and streaming radio, and television. They have also been picked up by the leading source of content that physicians, private-practices, community/government clinics, and hospitals show in their offices and waiting rooms.

“We know our work with Tony will allow us to continue relentlessly confronting lung cancer on every front, every day, for everyone,” said Laurie Ambrose, GO2 for Lung Cancer’s President and CEO. GO2, founded by patients and survivors, is dedicated to increasing survival for those at risk, diagnosed, and living with lung cancer.

The organization has a long history of providing one-on-one assistance, supportive connections, and treatment information, reiterating to those impacted by lung cancer that they are not alone on their journey. GO2 is also renowned for finding the best care options for patients close to home, and sharing the latest research that increases survivorship, overall unseating the leading cause of cancer death.
