My husband and I recently spent the weekend at The Kartrite Resort & Indoor Waterpark in New York’s Sullivan Catskills, only 90 minutes from New York City. We watched kids have the time of their lives on the 11 waterpark attractions at New York’s largest indoor waterpark. For the kids who are daredevils, they can enjoy rides like The Krakken or The Nor’easter. For the little ones or the adults looking for a more relaxing environment, enjoy the not-so-lazy river, Empire Bay, or attractions like Puddle Ducks Adventure Lagoon or the over 100 water activities and slides of Kartrite Island. The Kartrite Island features a massive dump bucket – definitely a top choice for the kiddos. We were even tempted to try out the Flowrider, a surfing simulator that creates flawless waves for as long as you can hold on.
After hours, when the waterpark closed, there was no shortage of activities. The Kartrite Resort’s Playpolis arcade featured every game you could imagine – even the ones we adults grew up with! Kids loved the crane machines or stuffed plushies and my husband and I challenged each other to a game of mini-bowling after dinner. Families can also play on Carabiners, a rope obstacle course, and zip line or bond over teamwork and strategy in the laser tag or escape room. We ended our nights outside, enjoying the refreshing Sullivan-Catskills air and enjoying the firepits, making s’mores, sharing stories and creating memories under the starry sky.
Fun for the Adults, aka Kids at Heart
While there is no denying The Kartrite is a dream for kiddos, adults like us feel right at home. My husband and I traveled without our kids or grandkids, but once we stepped foot in our hotel suite, we knew we’d have to visit again with them. The spacious, modern suites can sleep four to twelve guests, with some rooms even boasting dual-bunk beds. The deals and promotions at the Kartrite make it easy to extend throughout the weekend or add the Resort as a stop on your summer travel tours.
After dinner and cocktails, we enjoyed Bixby’s Derby, the Resort’s signature restaurant, we even took the chance to take the 5-minute shuttle to the Resort’s World Casino, adjacent to The Kartrite. The casino offers adults that little extra bit of adult-alone time to get away from the kids, with the convenience of the regularly running free shuttle. We tested our luck on some slot machines, enjoyed a round of blackjack, and planned another trip for some of the live performances.
