Woven Winter: A collection of 12 outerwear finds

As the rain, wind and general cold has settled in, I figured it is the perfect time to revisit  the outwear roundup from last year. While that roundup focused on length, I thought I would tackle something different - weaves. Here are my selects for woven outerwear this winter. Read the original piece on BELLAMag.co here. PlaidPlaid is the quintessential woven fabric  of cold weather. The essential attire of Lumberjacks, pumpkins patches and fallen leaves. Or if you went to a private school, or was a fan of CW or HBO Max’s Gossip Girl, it might remind you of a uniform. Normally, seen in the festive holiday colors of red and green, I like seeing them done in an unexpected colorway (Think Netflix’s Do Revenge). This super sweet Love Shack Fancy Asryn Coat in Majestic Pink is adorned with beautiful pearl buttons. It is also available in the Winter White. Looking for something more casual? The SMYTHE Barn Jacket allows you the option to go bag-less with multiple pockets. I like the hint of aqua in the weave. Add a magnetic faux fur collar for extra effect. The Kate Spade Plaid Tie-waist Coat in a Bitter Green colourway gives me vintage vibes as the addition of a belt helps to accent an hourglass silhouette. Herringbone & HoundstoothWhat is the difference between Herringbone and Houndstooth? Herringbone is like a fishbone, with converging lines making a pattern of slanted V’s. Yet, the V’s are never stacked directly on top of each other, that is called Chevron. Alternatively, Houndstooth could be described as a slanted checkerboard. Both patterns add beautiful statement pieces  to any wardrobe. This Anine Bing Diana Blazer, in Italian wool blend, is set in a cream and black. Inspired by menswear,  it offers a relaxed, oversized fit. The long lapel of this Bernardo Metro Print Mix Coat mimics the comfiness of a robe, but in a polished way. The buttonless coat looks extremely chic draped over shoulders and left open. The Camille Coat by slow-fashion brand Gaâla, uses up-cycled wool in this pastel colorway to brighten up those fall days. A Check has two colors with a symmetrical weave, whereas Plaid can have multiple colors in the palate and can be both symmetrical or asymmetrical. The Rouje John Coat in Carreaux Velors Marine is technically both - a Check and a Plaid weave. With a two-color colorway it’s a check but the weave boxes are asymmetrical, making it also a plaid. The short coat has dropped shoulders and two slanted pockets. For a true check, look at TOAST’s Buffalo Check Wool Coat. It’s oversized in fit, collared and has dark horn buttons to one side.
