Elegantly Emily: Resort Wear Inspired by Netflix’s Emily in Paris

If you spent the holidays inside trying not to think of below average temperatures, or ongoing pandemic woes – you probably treated yourself to feast for the fashion eyes and binged Season 2 of Netflix’s Emily in Paris. Costume designer, Marilyn Fitoussi and her trusty wardrobe consultant Patricia Field (yes, that one!) expertly transport us to Saint-Tropez for all those French Riviera feels. While international travel may not be in the cards at the moment, we can all take advantage of sales to curate a Resort Wear wardrobe ready for action. Here are a few notables that can take you from Copacabana to Bondi Beach at a moment’s whim:

Match Point

You know what looks chic on a super yacht in Monaco? Linen. Linen sets are perfect for keeping you cool during those three-hour lunches in the sweltering sun with chilled rose. All very Camille. If linen is a bit too formal, try these cotton TOBI short sets à la Mindy Chen. The first, is the Yacht Party Off Shoulder Ruffled Crop Top and Shorts set in Light Blue gingham. The tiered ruffle top and bottom add a bit of drama (the good kind).

Set sail on the high seas with the Noelle White Multi Striped Shorts and Crop top. These sets make it easy to stay chic and not worry about a windy wardrobe malfunction.

Prints Please

What says Resort Wear more than a printed dress or skirt? Emily Cooper knows best (Thanks to Marilyn and Patricia). Somewhere between Morocco and the Maldives, you’ll be sure to spot this Nathali Dress in Garden Green by Cara Cara.

The dress is complete with flowy tiers and a button-detailed front. Add this versatile Tisbury Skirt in Evening Blue to your wardrobe for both fashion and function.

With an A-line silhouette, this high waisted skirt looks great in warmer weather with a tank or a T-shirt, and equally appealing in cooler weather with boots and a sweater. A bright short combo , like this Ollari Myla Cami Top and Short is a statement. The options are endless - wear them as a full look with simple accessories, or on their own, bringing a pop of print to an outfit.

Pool or Ocean?

On the days where your biggest decision is whether to lounge poolside or take a dip in the ocean, do yourself a favor and maximize your outfit options to work for both. All of these suits look great on their own or paired with a bottom.Looking for something in between a bold print and a solid? Try Calzedonia’s Madrid. It's Padded Triangle Top and String Bottom come in a purple to blue ombre. The dainty ruffle trim is a sweet highlight to the bikini.

The Hazzard Swimsuit in the Placée print by La Double J is available in a matching towel, sarong and robe too.

Want a piece that looks fabulous while you catch the next wave? The Surf Suit will keep you on track. Available now in eight other fun prints, stay tuned for the new Conchiglie print (seen here). Both suits will be welcomed to the fold this Feb.

The Essentials

Whether it’s adding a little bit of whimsy (think Emily and Mindy) or that boss-lady chic (think Sylvie), the one thing they all have in common is that they elevate an outfit with a magical je ne sais quoi.Do you have the confidence to pull off a hat? If so, Galdys Tamez has your number. While packing a large brim hat in a carry-on takes some skill (Tip: Fill the crown of the hat with clothing to maintain shape and place it on an angle).  These styles will have you checking a bag, just so you have options on your next adventure. The Iman has a handmade curved brim in Panama straw with chain trim.

The Elizabeth has a 6-inch brim and is available in 4 colorways. With the flat low crown, you can use the chin strap to keep it in place as you are whisked away on your Vespa.

Pair down to your essentials for dinner or a party and leave your oversized straw beach tote at home. These Strathberry designs will do the trick, and both have a detachable strap to transform your look from casual to dressy.

The Multress Chain Wallet, shown here in embossed croc Navy (available in 9 colorways) has a gold chain, 8 card slots and zipped pocket.

If you are looking for something a little less structured, try the Lana Osette in Cotton Raffia/ Tan Leather. It’s a bucket bag complete with the signature Strathberry bar.

It only takes one ferocious ocean wave for you to say au revoir to your Designer shades. (Something not wished upon anyone!). SODA eyewear has a number of frames that will keep you stylish and won’t break the bank. In fact, with free worldwide shipping, you can probably afford to keep a few on hand. My picks are the gender-neutral Stevie, here in gold frames with Polarised PC Lens Rose lenses. This classic bohemian bottle cap style is available in black and copper frames as well.

The universally flattering, Steph is a cat eye, shown here in black frame with Polarised PC black lenses.

Why weigh down your luggage with shoe options, when on a warm weather holiday all you really need is TKEES. The best part, they already arrive in a cloth shoe bag easy for packing. My go-to is The Riley; seen here in Cocobutter, it’s cross-over straps and color goes well both printed and solid outfits alike.

Whether you are wintering in the South of France or chilling in your living room waiting for the next season of Emily in Paris, these styles will keep you looking your chicest wherever they take you.
