Couture as Performance: Lady Gaga and Doechii in Gaurav Gupta for Runway
Fashion takes center stage once again as Lady Gaga and Doechii step into the spotlight in custom Gaurav Gupta Couture for the music video Runway, featured on the soundtrack of The Devil Wears Prada 2. What unfolds is not just a visual moment, but a striking intersection of music, film, and high fashion.
Designed as immersive, second-skin creations, both looks are constructed as fully embellished, head-to-toe bodysuits that blur the line between garment and identity. Each piece extends seamlessly across the body, incorporating an integrated face covering that transforms the wearer into a sculptural, almost otherworldly form.
The craftsmanship behind the designs is as compelling as the visuals themselves. Brought to life over approximately 800 hours by a team of more than 20 artisans, each look is adorned with over 3,000 crystals, meticulously applied to create a dimensional, light-reflective surface.
Gaga’s look, rendered in a luminous pearl tone, delivers a soft yet striking radiance, with crystals and pearls catching the light in a fluid, almost ethereal way. In contrast, Doechii’s black bodysuit leans into a sharper, more graphic energy, layered with spikes and metal studs over a base of sequins and crystals, offering a bold counterpoint in both texture and tone.
Despite their differences, both designs share a sculpted structure that reflects Gupta’s signature focus on form, intensity, and movement. The result is a visual dialogue between softness and strength, elegance and edge—two distinct expressions unified through couture.
“These looks were designed as a second skin,” Gupta shared. “The idea was to create something immersive and unapologetic, where couture becomes both armor and identity.”
In a moment where fashion continues to expand beyond the runway, this collaboration reinforces couture’s evolving role within music and film. Here, it is not simply worn—it performs, transforms, and tells a story.
