Trend-spotting with Dr. Michael Newman: From Monaco to Miami, What’s Hot (and What’s Not) in Plastic Surgery

When Dr. Michael Newman isn’t in surgery in Beverly Hills or consulting with clients in Torrance, there’s a good chance he’s jet-setting across Europe—soaking up sunshine and surgical trends from Mykonos to Monaco.

“I do all the time, but it’s fun,” he says with a laugh about his whirlwind schedule. “When you love something with all your heart, it makes your job worth every minute.”

Ranked among the top 1% of plastic surgeons in the U.S., Dr. Newman has built a loyal following for his refined aesthetic, meticulous technique, and honest, approachable demeanor. Now, he’s giving BELLA the inside scoop on what’s trending in 2025—and what’s officially out.

The New Natural

After years of “more is more,” the aesthetic pendulum is swinging back.

“Nationally, things are trending toward a more natural look,” says Dr. Newman. “People are getting smaller breast implants or removing them altogether, opting instead for fat transfers to the breasts. Butt augmentations are more conservative now—people are undoing their BBLs.”

Even celebrities are shifting their perspective. “It just started getting scary,” he explains. “Some celebrities started to look fake—just strange. It scared a lot of people away.”

Plastic Surgery by City: Aesthetic Archetypes

From beachside bold to East Coast elegance, the U.S. offers a patchwork of beauty ideals:

  • Miami: “There’s a strong influence from South America. Low prices and high competition mean greater access, but you also see more overdone results.”

  • New York: “New York is the opposite—you’re getting some of the most natural results in the country.”

  • Los Angeles: “LA is trending toward a more natural look, too, though the shift is still happening.”

  • Palm Springs: “It’s warm year-round, and with crop tops and bikinis, everyone’s showing skin. There’s an uptick in subtle breast augmentations.”

Around the World in Beauty Trends

Dr. Newman’s international travels offer a broader lens on global beauty ideals:

  • Mykonos: “Rhinoplasty is big here—just removing the hump to create harmony.”

  • Brazil: “Always the king of butts—more perky now, less balloon-y.”

  • Lithuania: “Very New York–esque—polished, educated, and refined.”

  • Sardinia: “You’ll see people who, by Western standards, might ‘need’ surgery—but they completely own their look.”

  • Monaco & Cannes: “Just enough enhancement to look elevated—not transformed.”

Enter: The Ozempic Era

One of the biggest recent disruptors? Weight-loss medications.

“Ozempic and its cousins have had a massive impact,” Dr. Newman says. “People are losing volume quickly, which often results in loose skin.”

In response, patients are turning to skin tightening, facial surgeries, and body contouring to address what the meds don’t fix.

The Forever Breast and What’s Next

Known for pushing the envelope, Dr. Newman is the creator of the Forever Breast procedure—a fat-transfer technique that delivers natural-looking results without the use of implants.

He’s also a dedicated philanthropist, supporting causes such as Evelyn’s Breast Friends Forever and Rhonda’s Kiss, and is a familiar face in LA Magazine’s Best of LA and Men of Merit features.

Coming up next, you’ll find him at the Gurus Beauty Awards, where he’ll be spotlighting the newest innovations in aesthetics.

Want to stay ahead of the curve? “Follow me on Instagram,” he says. “Plastic surgery is constantly evolving, and I’ll keep you updated on the best, hottest, and most recent looks.”
