Louis Vuitton Unveils Fantasmagory: A Masterpiece of Scent and Design
Louis Vuitton continues its tradition of innovation and artistry with Fantasmagory, the newest addition to the Maison’s Les Extraits Collection. The fragrance marks a rare creative dialogue between two masters of their craft: Louis Vuitton’s Master Perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud and world-renowned architect Frank Gehry. Together, they have reimagined what a perfume can be—an expression of movement, light, and emotion captured in scent and form.
At the heart of Fantasmagory lies one of perfumery’s most treasured ingredients: vanilla. Cavallier Belletrud selected tahitensis vanilla from Papua New Guinea, its pulp cryogenically frozen before CO2 extraction to preserve the ingredient’s natural depth and purity. The result is a composition that reveals every nuance of the vanilla pod, from misty anise and soft floral notes to delicate leather undertones. Italian almonds add velvety warmth, while CO2-extracted ginger introduces a sparkling freshness, lending the fragrance its luminous contrast and quiet intensity.
The artistry continues with Gehry’s sculptural reinvention of the iconic Louis Vuitton perfume bottle. In this latest collaboration, the architect softened the vessel’s contours and infused it with a sense of movement—a poetic flow of glass and light. The cap, inspired by a wind-blown flower, unfolds in silver petals that shimmer above a yellow-gold elixir with a subtle green hue. The bottle itself becomes an object of desire, an architectural statement as evocative as the scent it holds.
A study in balance and imagination, Fantasmagory blurs the line between fragrance and fine art. It is a story of transformation—of materials, emotion, and craftsmanship—told through the shared language of design.
