From working backstage at the Latin Grammys to volunteering her skills for meaningful causes, Loretta is more than a makeup artist—she’s a storyteller, using skin as her canvas. In this exclusive interview, she opens up about her journey, her signature style, and the dreams she’s determined to turn into reality.
Can you tell us about your journey in the world of makeup? What inspired you to pursue this career?
Since I was a little girl, I always loved using my mom’s makeup. As I got older, I used my savings to buy my own makeup. It was always something I enjoyed and learned on my own, until one day I realized I actually had a real talent for it. That’s when I decided to study at a very prestigious academy in Colombia, where I learned so much. From that point on, I left behind the professional career I had pursued for seven years and took a leap of faith to follow this dream, which has been full of challenges.
How did your early experiences shape your approach to makeup and help you develop your unique style?
My style has always been natural. I love creating looks where, over time, you can look at the photos and still recognize yourself. I love enhancing and bringing out the beauty of the skin of those who sit in my chair. That said, I adapt to any style because I understand and respect diversity, and I’ve also ventured into more unconventional makeup looks.
What would you say is your signature style or specialty, and how has it evolved over time?
I love being part of events where we’re racing against the clock and need to transform looks to match an outfit or occasion. I’m constantly learning — I train with experts in each area and take the best of what I learn to shape my own style.
In an industry full of talent, what do you think sets you apart as a makeup artist?
I believe I’m someone who always gives 101%. I never hold back, and I always take pride in a job well done.
What has been the most memorable project or client you've worked with, and what made it so special?
When I was doing my diploma course and we had a class on mature skin, I did makeup on my children’s nanny. Seeing her transformation filled my soul. From that day on, I knew that makeup was more than just appearance — it was about the joy and confidence I could bring to each woman.
How do you stay on top of trends without losing your own artistic identity?
As I mentioned, I’m always training and learning about new trends and techniques. However, as the saying goes, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” While staying updated is important, having a strong sense of judgment in this art is everything. Not everything suits everyone, and experience has taught me that the best approach is always to adapt the makeup in a way that enhances someone’s beauty and flatters their features.
Looking ahead, what are your aspirations as a makeup artist? Are there any new projects or directions that excite you?
I’m very aware that I’m new to the country and that Miami is full of talent. I’ve had the opportunity to work on campaigns and participate in the Latin Grammys, which has been amazing. For now, I’m focused on getting my name out there, participating in events, and helping however I can. This coming April, I’ll be volunteering at a prom event for young people with cancer.
In the long term, I have many dreams to fulfill and many stages I envision myself on. But I know everything will come in its own time. If I continue with the same discipline I’ve had so far, I’ll achieve everything I set out to do.
