World Class Education: A Custom Beauty Experience

The Makeup Show is back in NYC this April 30th - May 1st, and ready to deliver its world class education including multiple stages for artists to enjoy, learn, & create a custom beauty education experience. 9am to 5pm daily.

The Main Stage is THE destination for artists and industry members to come learn the hottest tips, tricks, trends, and discoveries of beauty. The show’s education will cover a range of topics from getting to and staying at the top of a competitive industry, authenticity, and connection, how to be iconic in a saturated market, and more.

Sandra Saenz: A Career in Makeup: Makeup Artist & Content Creator Sandra Saenz mixes her down-to-earth nature with her appeal to luxury brands, to entice a diverse audience on her social media. Sandra has been featured in magazines throughout the United States and Europe as well as in advertising campaigns for Sephora. Currently, she serves as a global brand ambassador for color with KVD Beauty. Sandra brings her cross-cultural knowledge and understanding of art, culture, beauty, and aesthetics to every project.

Laurel Charleston: Art & Influence: Laurel Charleston is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans the cosmetic, digital, and high fashion sectors. Best known for her ground-breaking cosmetic Doja Cat for Paris Fashion Week of 2022, Laurel’s client roster includes the likes of Normani, Dylan Mulvaney, and Teyana Taylor, alongside luxury clientele like Macys, Coach, Instagram, Bombay Sapphire, Steve Madden & L’Oreal. She has also made her mark in the Metaverse as the first trans curator invited to the coveted SuperRare marketplace, a project that birthed SuperTrans, a traveling gallery show that showcased 11 trans artists from all over the world.

REPRESENT: Artistry & Agency Redefined with EJ Jamele & Merrell Hollis: The cultural shifts of the last few years have made a major impact on the beauty industry. As artists, we have an incredible opportunity to revisit where we are and explore the existing landscape and possibilities available to us. In this session, EJ Jamele of crowdMGMT, and artist Merrell Hollis, will reexamine the title of makeup artist and explore some new ways for artists to build their business and brand. They will examine and explore the business foundation pillars of Artistry, Marketing, Service Presentation Portfolios and more.

Beyond Diversity: Countering Otherness in the Makeup Industry with Joe Dulude, Suki Tsujimoto & Etzel Eccleston: Otherness is about being different or having characteristics that set you apart from the dominant group or groups that seem to dominate a workspace. Contrary to commonly held stereotypes, artists who feel racially/ethnically different or are marginalized by gender or expression are not less qualified to lead or perform a job, but it can be much more difficult for them to get the opportunity. In this important panel award-winning artists, Joe Dulude, Suki Tsujimoto, and Etzel Eccleston talk about moving through this space.

Making it in Makeup with Luis Casco: Navigating your career and social media while maintaining your integrity and authenticity can seem overwhelming. Luis Casco has been a makeup artist with top celebrities, models & photographers for more than 25 years. He has led teams at Paris, New York and Russia Fashion Weeks and The Emmy’s®. Luis has appeared as the lead on-camera Makeup Artist of Lifetime Network’s Project Runway.

Aim for Growth: Taking Your Business to the Next Level with Maude Okrah & James Vincent for Black Beauty Roster: Making your mark in the beauty industry requires technical skill, an entrepreneurial spirit, and an understanding of the ever-changing needs of our clients, cameras, and business acumen. In this session Maude Okrah helps you understand how to separate yourself from the crowd while building your ability to connect and cater to all clients and manage your business. She is the President of BBR (Black Beauty Roster). Black Beauty Roster is a digital DE&I platform that connects the TV, Film & Editorial world with hairstylists and makeup artists trained in textured hair and darker complexions, while simultaneously increasing education around textured hair and darker complexions to the industry at large.

Artists will cover topics from bridal makeup to the perfect skin master class. Artists presenting include Danessa Myricks, Aga Rhodes, Melanie Mills, Bethany Townes & Lijha Stewart.

The Business of Beauty sessions give artists an edge in the industry by sharpening your industry skills such as marketing, hair design, navigating agencies, brows, & going over how to organize your kit. Don’t miss presenters like Madeline Leonard & Ivan Betancourt & so many more for the business of beauty sessions!
