From Intern to Anchor - Shannan Ferry Takes Over NY1’s “News All Day”

On June 10th, Spectrum News NY1 shared the exciting announcement that Shannan Ferry will be taking over  “News All Day,” NY1’s weekday afternoon newscast airing from 12 – 4 p.m. Shannan previously co-anchored the weekend morning program “Weekends on 1” alongside Rocco Vertuccio, and has filled in behind the anchor desk throughout the daytime, including many appearances on the weekday morning broadcast “Mornings on 1.”

Shannan has been a devoted member of the NY1 team for over a decade, first joining as an intern in 2012. She was the recipient of the 2013 Fox News College Challenge, a nationwide contest awarding a scholarship and internship to the nation’s top college newscasters. In 2014, Shannan returned to NY1 as a freelance reporter covering Queens and Staten Island before accepting a full-time role in 2015.

As a Queens native, Shannan brings a local perspective to her reporting. “Shannan doesn’t just report on New York City – she’s from here, and she understands how New Yorkers think and what they care about,” said Michael Kurtz, Senior Director of News at NY1. “Her work is informed by years of reporting from the field, and that comes through every time she sits at the anchor desk.”

Over the past decade at NY1, Shannan has become an Emmy-winning journalist with extensive experience covering the coronavirus pandemic and the demonstrations in New York City following the death of George Floyd in 2020. She also anchored the network’s coverage of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned the constitutional right to an abortion established in Roe v. Wade.

With Shannan’s move to weekdays, Emmy-winning journalist Rocco Vertuccio will now be the sole anchor of “Weekends on 1”, which airs on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

“News All Day” airs on NY1, and is available to Spectrum subscribers on channel 1 and via the Spectrum News App for mobile, Xumo Stream Box, Roku, and Apple TV streaming devices.
