How CURIO, Miami’s High-Fashion Concept Store, Has Become an Icon of Fashion + Cultural Influence

In the heart of Miami Beach’s vibrant fashion scene, the CURIO Store stands as a testament to the transformative power of visionary entrepreneurship. Since its launch as a pop-up concept in 2019, CURIO has not only expanded its physical footprint but also its influence in the fashion world, becoming an iconic destination for both fashion-forward customers and those discovering new international designers.

Founded by Danielle Licata and Jeffrey Lasota, both veterans in the fashion industry, CURIO has experienced remarkable growth year on year. Their combined expertise—Lasota with his decades-long experience with international brands like Stella McCartney and Belstaff, and Licata's pivotal role in reinvigorating the Coterie Trade Show in New York—has been instrumental in CURIO's success.

This past month was particularly important for CURIO. The store hosted its annual fundraising sale, starting with a private VIP shopping day, followed by a public sale that was extended due to overwhelming success. This year's event supported The Israel Milk and Honey Blood Bank, showcasing CURIO's commitment to social responsibility. Danielle Licata shared that the enthusiasm was so high that people were keen to contribute even if they couldn't attend the event physically. The fundraising sale is a yearly event at CURIO benefiting multiple charities but this year they felt particularly strongly about supporting Israel and the outcome was an overwhelming success.  

Following the triumph of the sale, CURIO announced a significant expansion: the launch of a new men's space. This development signifies Curio's dedication to offering a diverse range of brands and styles. The new space features a meticulously curated selection from esteemed brands like Jil Sander, Marni, Missoni, and Maison Margiela, reflecting the discerning tastes of co-owners Licata and Lasota.

The expansion seamlessly connects the lobby area on Collins Avenue with the former men's boutique on 34th Street. The walls are adorned with bespoke hand-painted green mosaics by artist Austin Kerr, whose collaboration with Faena’s art director has resulted in a captivating blend of cleanliness and dynamism. The 1900 square foot space, redesigned by interior designer Rafa Olarra, a notable figure in the Faena community, creates an inviting atmosphere with its exquisite carpets, sophisticated lighting, and verdant plants.

Kerr's murals, drawing inspiration from the artistic language of Jean Cocteau, introduce a fresh, innovative style that pays homage to Cocteau's enduring legacy. The result is a mesmerizing environment that enriches the shopping experience, making Curio not just a store, but a cultural hub where art and fashion intersect.
