Winter Reset: 10 Ways to Beat the Winter Blues
By Lori-Ann Marchese
If cold weather or shorter days have you feeling those winter blues, you’re definitely not alone. You may be experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, depression, mood swings, lack of energy, or difficulty focusing. With these helpful tips, you’ll be well on your way to feeling less sadness and a lot more energetic. Implementing these suggestions into your daily routine will be a great kickstart to feeling refreshed and reenergized this season.
Hydrate
Water does wonders for the skin and body. And winter months can cause dry skin, so make sure to drink more water. The recommended amount is eight 16oz bottles of water per day, which will help boost your confidence with glowing skin!
Mind + Body Massage
Just the sound of that makes me feel calm! Make sure to book some time for yourself and get a scalp and body massage. This will help reduce stress, rebalance your body, and alleviate muscle tension.
Be Grateful
Sitting at home during those cold, dark, and stormy winter months, all we have is time to think. While it becomes easy to let negative thoughts in, remember this is also a time to reflect and be grateful for what you have. Try writing down ten things you are grateful for and you will see your attitude shift towards the positive very quickly!
Get Sleep
Get some rest! During colder months, use this time to do some hibernating and get your beauty sleep. A restful sleep will give you more energy, help you focus, and become more balanced both mentally and physically.
Vitamin Infusion
Are you lacking vitamins? A daily multi-vitamin will help improve your mood, boost immunity, and reduce stress and anxiety. Other benefits include the improvement of healthy hair, skin, and nails.
Celebrate the Small Wins
Celebrating the small wins helps us build strength and belief in ourselves. It encourages a sense of pride in what you’ve accomplished and shines a light on the challenges you have overcome.
Meditation Healing Sessions
I personally recommend meditation healing sessions about every six to eight weeks. This practice aids in reducing anxiety and depression, while also allowing you to build coping skills and self-awareness.
Exercise
Adding fitness into your routine promotes brain health, weight management, self-confidence, and increased energy for managing daily activities. Exercise also allows you to break out of your comfort zone and focus on doing something for yourself, even for 45 minutes a day. Implementing something that’s good for you and your health will help boost your mood and fight those blues!
Eat Healthy
Eating clean, fresh foods verses canned and processed items makes all the difference. Fresh foods boost energy, while processed food reduce energy levels. Before making your next meal choice, think energy or no energy? If you want to feel good, and look good, choose fresh!
Cup of Tea
Sometimes, enjoying a warm cup of chamomile tea, just before bed, will calm your mind and body, thus ensuring a restful night of sleep. Tea can feel like a cozy, warm blanket inside of your soul - a little soothing to reduce the daily blues.
