The Stars Come Out In LA To Celebrate The Heart Foundation

A celeb-filled fete of giving back, The Heart Foundation honored Dana Carvey in an intimate evening in Beverly Hills featuring musical entertainment by famed musician, songwriter, composer, producer, and recording artist David Foster and singer and actress Katharine McPhee

For 27 years The Heart Foundation has passionately pursued its mission of saving lives from heart disease, the #1 cause of death for both females and males in the United States, by increasing awareness and funding research at Cedars-Sinai’s Smidt Heart Institute under the direction of world-renowned cardiologist P.K. Shah, M.D.  The foundation was established in memory of Steven S. Cohen, who, although outwardly the picture of health, lost his life to a sudden heart attack at the age of 35, leaving behind a wife and two young daughters. The Heart Foundation’s Steven S. Cohen Humanitarian Award is presented to individuals who embody Steven’s spirit by effecting change within their communities and demonstrating a commitment to the betterment of humankind.

This year, comedian, actor, impressionist, screenwriter, podcaster, and producer Dana Carvey was honored for his efforts to bring awareness to heart disease and promote early detection and prevention by sharing his own heart health story.  The award was presented to Carvey by his good friend Jon Lovitz.  The evening also included opening remarks from Michael Bublé and tribute messages from David Spade, Kevin Nealon, Mike Myers, and Adam Sandler.  Previous honorees include Mike Meldman, Wolfgang Puck, Berry Gordy, Kirk and Anne Douglas, Norman R. Brokaw, Marshall Ezralow, and Kimberly and Prediman Krishan (P.K.) Shah, M.D.

This epic evening was a major success for The Heart Foundation, adding to the more than $35 million they have raised over the years, a phenomenal contribution to a cause so close to the heart of numerous individuals throughout Los Angeles and beyond.  Help spread awareness of heart disease, the #1 cause of death for both men and women in the United States, and be a part of the conversation on social media using the hashtag #theheartfoundation.

ABOUT THE HEART FOUNDATION

Our Inspiration

On December 7, 1995, Steven Cohen came home from work, changed his clothes, kissed his wife and daughters (ages 5 and 2), and walked out the door to play his weekly basketball game with friends. No one could imagine what would follow. During the basketball game this healthy-looking, 35-year-old man complained of not feeling well. He left the court, sat down and suffered a massive heart attack that took his life.

Our Mission

The Heart Foundation’s mission is to save lives from heart disease by increasing awareness, educating the public, and funding innovative research under the direction of world-renowned cardiologist P.K. Shah, M.D., at Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai.
