Three Days of an Experimental Event During International Beauty Show-NYC

The International Beauty Show is one of the best national trade shows. Each year the IBS hosts an experimental event with the goal to educate, elevate and inspire cosmetology professionals, students, and the multicultural industry. The IBS NY show was held at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City and sold out!

This year the New York show kicked off with panels, workshops, and networking opportunities to support the beauty community! It has always been an experiential event that empowers beauty professionals, the three-day experience offered live demonstrations, engaging teaching, and opportunities for beauty pros to learn about the newest products while connecting with suppliers directly. Crowds lined up to meet top artists, educators, and influencers. Workshops were filled, where attendees learned the latest beauty trends, techniques, and the best business ingenuity to scale for success.

IBS New York hosted hundreds of exhibitors offering cosmetics, hair care products and accessories, hair color, hair extensions, men’s grooming products, wigs, skin care products, equipment, and furniture for spas and salons, beauty apparel, spa products, nail enhancements, nail care and tools, tanning lotions and various other accessories used by beauty professionals.

We are thrilled to bring IBS NY back to the Jacob Javits, our industry is such a tight-knit community,” said Liz Hitchcock, event director for IBS and IECSC. “We’ve missed being together and experiencing the connection that can only take place at an in-person event.”

Respected industry stylist, Candy Shaw took to the main stage for hands-on demonstrations. Shaw grew up in the beauty business as the daughter of former world-champion competition hairdresser Jamison Shaw. Trained in Paris, Candy’s been a French Cutter and Balayage Highlighter her entire life. The world’s foremost authority on balayage education, Candy teaches a fast, efficient, no-nonsense method of hair painting. Candy runs three companies: Jamison Shaw Hairdressers, a 50-year-young, third-generation, salon in Atlanta, where she personally sees up to 25 guests each day; an Academy specializing in balayage education; and SUNLIGHTS®, the makers and purveyors of the world’s leading balayage products and education.

This year the IBS introduced the new Power House pavilion, celebrating black beauty entrepreneurs. The pavilion displayed how iconic Black artists and entrepreneurs of the past, and the game changers of today, who have forged their ways, and advanced the beauty industry. There were enriching conversations and interactions with experts in the areas of finance, legal, marketing, business management, social media, and more.Celebrity hairstylist, Johnny Wright hosted a workshop. Wright shared his unique path. Over the course of 25 years, he spent 8 years as Michelle Obama’s personal hairstylist during the Obama Administration. Wright has worked as Tamron Hall’s key hairstylist on her Emmy Award-winning daytime show, as well as creative director for Soft Sheen Carson for L’Oréal.

Educational opportunities were led by prominent artists, celebrity stylists, and beauty influencers. Attendees participated in over eighty classes covering trendsetting techniques and education in key categories including nails, hair, brows, men's grooming and business marketing, and more. Sessions feature profit‐boosting tips from experts including Michael Cole & Danny Harris, Brandi Fulton, and Miki Wright.If you’re truly new to the beauty show game or an experienced professional, there is something for everyone!
