From the Kitchen to the Vanity

By: Dr. Robi Ludwig

As a young boy growing up in Queens, New York, Atul Bhatara recalls seeing his mother, grandmother and aunt pulling spices from the kitchen to use for their home skincare regime.

Turmeric, cinnamon and chickpea flower became a face scrub.  A yogurt and saffron and turmeric mixture became face moisturizer. Coconut oil mixed with Sandalwood paste became a serum. The smell and textures of this family routine is what Atul remembers the most.

“I love this idea of using all natural ingredients and knowing what you put into something and why you did it. This is shared through generations in our family,” Atul says.

Atul remembers being so impressed with the home ayurveda remedy results that his dream was to take the ingredients out of the family kitchen and into global distribution. During the pandemic, he got busy and went to work.

His entire Atul Skincare is cruelty free, Paraben-free, dermatology tested and made in the USA. Atul Skincare is FDA registered facilities and is also propriety formulas. Each product has passed microbiological testing. Atul Skincare is unisex, made for anyone who wants to take care of their skin.

Atul Skincare consists of a 4-part skincare routine. First, the daily cleanser, made of all natural ingredients with flowers and natural herbs and is best used in the mornings and in the evenings. Secondly, the mask, an all-natural liquid clay with saffron cinnamon and sandalwood paste, can be applied 2-3 times a week to exfoliate the skin. Thirdly, the serum, oil based all natural with saffron, clove oil and prunus oil and other essential oils, hydrates the skin and helps enhance your natural glow. Finally, the moisturizer, turmeric shea butter and rosewater among other ingredients, is used after washing your face as a way to protect skin from environmental pollutants and to preserve natural oils.

Women can also seal-in their makeup with the serum and add another coat after the makeup is applied.

The ingredients will definitely give you the scents and textures of ancient India skincare routines. Fresh. Crisp. Clean. Sensual.

Many critics tried to dissuade Atul to launch his skincare line, but Atul saw the product in his imagination in the marketplace before he even began. He embraced what people thought would be business obstacles because overcoming the impossible is something Atul has done his entire life.

Atul was born prematurely with Cerebral Palsy. “My Cerebral Palsy has given me a bunch of circumstances and challenges where I have to be motivated and just not let anything impede my progress. There has to be a level of motivation that starts deep in the mind,” he says.

“I don’t want Cerebral Palsy to be the focus of my story, but I require mental strength and spiritual support and a loving caring environment. That’s where my strength comes from. My story is about this incredible skincare line that I was able to build through the women in my family and my heritage and my culture.”

Almost 40 years have passed, but Atul can still see those happy days as a little boy in his family’s kitchen where love, laughter, scents and aromas filled the air. It’s a time he says that really shaped his personality and outlook on life.

“Life is full of possibilities,” he says. Indeed.
