Following 25 years of leading makeup teams in the entertainment industry, working on the sets of world-renowned scripted series, daytime talk shows, and competition series, celebrity makeup artist Melanie Mills has announced the opening of The Makeup Altar this October in East Nashville, TN. The boutique – which will feature a curated selection of the best products for both inner and outer beauty – fulfills a lifelong dream for Mills and comes to fruition following a move to Nashville in 2021.

Given her vast professional experience, Mills has leveraged the close relationships with numerous beauty brands made throughout her career to hand-select and curate products that will be available at the Makeup Altar. Brands showcased throughout the store – available to both professionals and consumers – will include Make Up For Ever, Senna Cosmetics, Cozzette, Danessa Myricks, Melanie Mills Hollywood, Lemonhead, Viseart, The Creative Makeup, RCMA, Ben Nye Inglot, Muse Beauty, My Kit Co, Monda, Cinema Secrets, Cammy Nyguen, and Esum. Also available will be a wide array of makeup tools and essentials, including puffs, sponges, mascara wands, alcohols, makeup removers, and more. The boutique will also be the backdrop for a series of events – both educational and social – focused on beauty. Equally focused on inner beauty, the Makeup Altar will also stock a wide array of spiritual objects, including crystals, singing bowls, handmade candles and incense, sage wands, bells, and chimes. Showcasing small independent artists from throughout the world, Mills has curated each piece for the Altar, perfect as personal spiritual tools or as thoughtful gifts for friends and family. Reinforcing its mission to promote inner beauty, the Makeup Altar will also host specific evenings with sound baths, tarot and birth chart readings, and numerology. Mills, who resided in Los Angeles prior to her move to Nashville, is best known for her work as a make-up artist on Dancing with the Stars, The Real, and hit Nickelodeon shows including iCarly, Henry Danger, and Victorious, amongst others. Mills has won two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Makeup Design – first in 2008 for Dancing with the Stars and later in 2021 for The Real. Melanie’s superior talent has earned her a total of twenty-one career Emmy nominations, including two double-nominations. While working on Dancing with the Stars, Mills introduced trendsetting glowing skin and statement makeup looks that were rare to see on television up until that time. While on DWTS, Melanie created her first beauty product – Gleam Face and Body Radiance – borne from a professional need to perfect the cast’s body makeup for HD and stage lighting. This revolutionary transfer-resistant multipurpose face and body makeup perfects and illuminates the skin in six stunning shades. This led to Mills’ launch of her own eponymous brand – Melanie Mills Hollywood – in 2011, which now offers illuminating shimmering powders, vegan makeup brushes and brush soap as well as the now-viral Super Lite Long Lasting Setting Spray. Melanie released her first book Glitter & Glam, published in 2013 by Penguin Books, which showcases her creative vision and demonstrates the various technical skills she has mastered over the years. Featured throughout the book are celebrities including Jennifer Grey, Brandy Norwood, Liz Gillies, Jennette McCurdy, Ariana Grande, Danielle Monet, Avin Jogia, Natalie Coughlin and Audrina Patridge, to name a few.
