Hip-Hop X Siempre, produced by veteran director Jessy Terrero, looks to the past to remember and celebrate the Latinos who were a founding part of hip-hop. Highlighting legends like Fat Joe, B-Real, N.O.R.E and Residente, while spotlighting new voices in the genre such as Eladio Carrión, Myke Towers, Alemán,  Snow Tha Product, West Indian Villain and Thunder.

To celebrate the documentary, Amazon Music hosted a special premiere at Public Arts space in New York City. The event captured all things hip hop, from the hall of fame wall people could tag, custom graffiti t-shirts, and even drinks named after famous lyrics like “Boricua Morena.”

Following the premiere, a conversation was moderated by Laura Stylez, host of Hot 97’s morning show Ebro In The Morning, talking about the importance of Latinx representation in the popular genre, and how some of the guests have been impacted by hip hop. Panelists included brothers and visionary geniuses Jessy Terrero and Ulysses Terrero, Executive Producer Angie Romero Gillspie, DJ Tony Touch, James Cruz, and DJ Enuff.

As part of the conversation, Jessy Terrero shared, “I want people to understand our place, our point of view in the world of hip hop,” explaining why he was a part of the project as the Executive Director. Another influential figure in the project is Angie Romero, a seasoned journalist who has covered hip hop for over 20 years and was the Executive Producer on Hip-Hop X Siempre. As an Ecuadorian who was first impacted by hip hop at a family barbeque, “I want Latinos to feel proud, to feel part of the movement and birth of Hip Hop,” she shares, hoping that future Latinx generations will keep pushing the genre forward.
