It’s the perfect time of year to settle down with a new, crisp book. When you find yourself in a reading rut, however, it can be hard to pull yourself out of it. Enter: thrillers. These quick-paced reads will have you on the edge of your seat, giving you the much-needed reentry into the world of reading.

The Chamber by Will Dean

This gripping new novel takes the classic trapped room thriller and makes it even scarier. Taking place deep below the ocean’s surface, six saturation divers get to work near the ocean floor. However, shortly into their monthlong sojourn down below, the crew wakes up to find one of their bunkmates dead and it takes four long days to decompress and get back to safety. Will the rest of the divers survive or is someone plotting to take them all out?

Wilderness Reform by Matt Query and Harrison Query

Take a wilderness camp for troubled boys and mix it with some otherworldly evil and you get Wilderness Reform. Ben, an angsty 13-year-old, is sent to a reform program in the Montana mountains but quickly notices that not everything is as it seems. The counselors seem almost robotic, with something sinister lurking beneath the surface. This slow burn follows Ben and his blossoming camp buddies as they try to discover the mysteries surrounding the camp and make it out alive thanks to their newfound survival skills.

The Main Character by Jaclyn Goldis

Reminiscent of Murder on the Orient Express, this new novel centers around a luxury train trip planned by reclusive author Ginerva Ex, who selects everyday people to base her bestselling novels around. Her new main character Rory boards the train only to find that her best friend, brother, and ex-fiance have also been invited by Ex, and Rory begins to think ulterior motives are at play. Each passenger is hiding secrets and Rory begins to suspect that someone’s life may be in danger.

We Used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer

Perfect for those rainy summer days, this chilling tale (which is already set to be turned into a Netflix flick starring Blake Lively) follows a young queer couple who just moved into an old home in a rural neighborhood. Eve is working to flip the house one day, but a knock at her door brings things to a halt. On her doorstep is a man with his family, claiming to have grown up in the house, asking to show his family around. Once inside, the family’s quirks begin to emerge and the onset of a sudden storm keeps them stranded together inside the house. This haunting novel plays with your sense of reality and will have you on the edge of your seat waiting for enlightenment.

Swan Song by Elin Hilderbrand

In true Hilderbrand fashion, her latest – and last – solo novel takes place in Nantucket, where mysterious newcomers, the Richardsons, move into a $22 million dollar summerhouse. The locals are curious about the lavish lifestyle of the newbies and when their house goes up in flames and their personal concierge goes missing, the search for answers begins. Filled with mystery, drama, and romance, this page-turner will envelop you in the charm and atmosphere of the beachy New England island.
